Ok......this "78" MGB I picked up came with some Halogen type headlamps which had the lower inside "blue" running lights built in. I thought I'd hook them up to see how they look.....I think they look pretty cool (check pic). So after some wiring I went ahead and was going to finish the headlamp installation....now remember when I got this MGB the lights were in but the chrome rims were not.
So, I connect all the lights, tighten down what rim parts were there .....some trouble with the headlamps "seating" into the rings.... but got them to "seat"....so here I go to install the "chrome rims".
I knew about the lower "clips", they are there.....knew about the top two lips...they are there.......place the chrome rims on the top lips, pushed down, lower clip - "clipped" but the rims just don't sit fat.....no matter what I do.......look at the pics.......tight on top, lifted out on bottom...?????????????????
I've been back in the garage half the day attempting to figure this out.
Remember, I got this MGB after the previous owner tore it down to do the body/paint...I'm putting it back together with parts it came with and were provided....I hope I got the right "parts".
Taking a break, walking away.....Suggestions are welcomed.

Some of these Chinese replacement headlights are slightly oversize. Measure these against your old headlights or a known quality one.

I believe the headlamp bucket is the original., the other parts not sure. I have not problem with ordering new rims but I don't want to run into the same problem. I took the lights out and attempted to mount the chrome rims on without the lamps and they still look too small (diameter) to fit over. I've attached a few pictures of the headlamps in without the chrome rim....not sure if you can see anything that may let me know "why" they are not fitting.
One of the pictures I attempted to show the lower rim clip which is on the bucket.
Again: before I order new ones I want to make sure that what I am working with will accept the the new rims.
Thanks

When I added halogen lights to my 67, the lucas inner rings that came with the kit were the issue, I swapped these out for my old inner rings and the outer rings fit.

There is a "Retainer Clip" (black) on the bottom of the bucket. I can slip the rim over the retainer ring and pry the ring over the upper bucket lips.....but as noted in the pictures the chrome rims simply won't go over the entire diameter of the bucket. I don't believe the (gold) retainer ring is holding them back.....confusing.
