I'm restoring a 1976 MG Midget that the previous owner took all apart, and rebuilt the engine, but that's all. I've got a bucket of nuts and bolts, and wires going everywhere, but the Problem I'm having at the present (I'm taking them 1 at a time), is that I can't find a narrow shroud that the radiator mounts in, and the water pump shaft & Fan extend beyond where the radiator sits. I've bought 2 shrouds on eBay, and both of them are about 3 3/4" wide front to back where the radiator mounts. I read somewhere that the 1500 takes a thinner shroud. It should be about 1 1/2 to 1 3/4" wide front to back. I can't find a shroud for sale that fits this dimension. The last fellow I talked to said that the 3 3/4" fits the 1500 (he knew because he just took the radiator out of his 1976 -1500 Midget. It won't fit in mine. Anyone have any answers. Help!

I would dump the existing mechanical fan, forget the shroud and install a pusher type electric fan. It will cool better at lower speeds or in traffic. Plus your alternator has enough reserve output to pick up the 10 amps electric fan current draw.

Can you get a pic? Given that you tried the shroud from another 76 1500 and it did not work then there has to be another problem there. A pic will help us to see what your seeing and we'll be better able to see a problem.
