My car is a '59 1600 mk 1 and I have an issue with the dipstick it came with. It is a cranked stick with a T piece collar ot 'top hat' collar attached to the shaft much like you'd find on an MGB. The collar below the T piece is supposed to fit into the dipstick tube but mine sits on top. I have no idea how the dipstick is supposed to fit or which dipstick I should have, clearly the one I have is incorrect. Could anyone advise as to what I should have and has anyone the correct dimensions such as the distance from the bottom of the stick to whatever it is that stops the dipstick at the top of the tube (if that makes any sense)?

Ah, thanks for that Eric, so reading those articles It seems that the dipstick should touch the bottom of the oil pan??

There is a bump in the bottom of the oil pan - a few inches forwards of the drain plug, The dip stick bottoms out on that bump.
