1500 First and Second Piston Compression Rings The Same?

I may have mixed up the first and second compression rings on one of my pistons. I had placed them both on my workbench and then quickly forgot which one went where. The thing is, they both measure out to exactly the same dimensions. Are they the same?

I thought the upper had a chamfer on the inner diameter. Probably depends on ring brand tho

I ran into the same problem a year or two ago. They come separated as 1, 2, and 3 but 1 and 2 look to be exactly the same. I don't know if I got them in correctly or not but I have had not problems with it. So either I guessed right or it doesn't matter. I decided that the most important thing is to get the "top" marking up.
Be sure to "gap" your rings. It is a step many rebuilders forget or fail to do. You should put them in your cylinder before you place them on the piston and check the gap. The gap should be .011. If the gap is too close, file the ends carefully to make it right. The gap is important for heat expansion.
